Version history
Every update,
in plain words.
PillRem is built and maintained by one independent developer. Here is what changed in each version.
2.1.0
Latest August 2026The biggest update since the rewrite. PillRem now lives on your Home Screen, your Lock Screen and your Dynamic Island — so most days you never need to open the app at all.
New
- Interactive widgets. Small, medium and large Home Screen widgets showing today's doses. Tap a dose to mark it as taken without opening PillRem.
- Lock Screen widgets. Your next dose and your daily progress, right under the clock.
- Live Activity and Dynamic Island. The dose you're about to take stays on screen until you act on it.
- Critical alerts. Reminders that come through Focus modes and the silent switch, for the doses you cannot miss. Approved by Apple and off by default.
- Medication photos in Upcoming Doses. A thumbnail of the box next to each dose, so you recognise it at a glance.
- Adherence chart with a date range. Switch between 7 days, 1 month, 6 months and 1 year, with your 85% goal line.
- Redesigned onboarding. Name, scanner, notifications, location — set up in under a minute.
- Redesigned Pro screen and a new About section in Settings.
- 18 languages, fully translated.
Improved
- iCloud sync is now near-instant. Marking a dose on your iPhone shows up on your iPad in seconds instead of taking up to an hour.
- Reminders are now time-sensitive, so evening doses are no longer held back by Scheduled Summary or Focus modes.
- Rebuilt notification scheduling for people with many medications and several profiles — no more reminders silently dropping off.
- Deep links: reminders, widgets and Live Activities all open exactly the right screen.
Fixed
- "Add manually" after an unrecognised scan did nothing — it now opens the medication form.
- The camera kept scanning underneath the manual form and could interrupt what you were typing.
- Sheets opened as a full page on iPad instead of a panel.
- Settings tabs appeared at the top of the screen on iPad.
- The height and weight picker was wrong in imperial units.
- Profile colours reset when the app was closed.
- Location permission was requested in the wrong situations.
2.0.3
2 July 2026Fixed
- iCloud sync could create duplicate copies of the same medication across devices.
2.0.0
19 June 2026PillRem rebuilt from zero. Same app, nothing left of the old one underneath.
All advertising removed. Version 2.0 dropped AdMob and every tracking SDK for good. PillRem has had no ads, no ad identifiers and no analytics inside the app since this release — and it never will again.
New
- A completely new app written in SwiftUI, with the Liquid Glass design of iOS 26.
- iCloud sync across iPhone and iPad through your own private iCloud account.
- Up to 8 family profiles, each with its own schedule, reminders and history.
- Medication scanner covering 40+ countries — name, active ingredient, dose and expiry filled in from the box, offline.
- Smart Insights, adherence tracking and nearby pharmacy search.
- Free tier with unlimited medications and unlimited scanning.
1.0 – 1.2.2
2022 – 2025The original PillRem: reminders, the medication database and the first version of the scanner. These versions were supported by ads through Google AdMob, which were removed entirely in 2.0. If you are still on a 1.x version, updating is free.
